St. Mary's new, state-of-the-art softball complex rivals Division I facilities and includes locker rooms, batting cages, a ticket office and outfield berm seating.
The complex is part of The Park at St. Mary's, which is a modern, multi-use sports facility capable of hosting NCAA tournaments and championships. Construction on the $16 million complex began in spring 2012, and reached completion in the fall of 2013. It features upgraded facilities for athletes and fans, including renovations to the baseball field and construction of new baseball facilities, additional tennis courts, two soccer fields and two softball fields with a stadium with locker rooms. The project is a partnership between St. Mary’s and Bexar County, with a $6 million grant coming from Bexar County’s Community Venues Program.
The plans for the facility coincide with the University's mission, which as a Catholic Marianist University is to foster the formation of people in faith and educate leaders for the common good through community, integrated liberal arts and professional education, and academic excellence. The complex figures to become a vital part of the community of the West Side of San Antonio, with it being able to host a variety of activities and programs designed to meet the interests and needs of the public. These activities include youth sports clinics, athlete autograph-signing opportunities, festivals and concerts, and the collection of food items at the facilities to help people in the community.
